Dr Karen Reid is a Registered Dietitian and Sport & Exercise Nutritionist, who has worked at an elite level in high performance sport over the past 25 years. She has provided performance nutrition support to groups and individuals, across a wide range of sports at an elite level including England Hockey, Welsh Rugby Union, UK Athletics, England Women’s Rugby Football Union and was the Regional Lead Nutritionist (London) for the English Institute of Sport for 4 years.

Karen is passionate about sharing her expertise and knows what it takes to help elite athletes and sportspeople to maximise their potential to perform. She draws on many years of experience designing sport specific nutritional strategies for both teams and individuals across a range of different sporting disciplines with the ultimate goal of helping them to fast track towards sporting success.

Karen continues to provide nutrition support to individual athletes and delivers the nutrition component of the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) for British Athletics in London and the South East Region and currently delivers nutrition workshops at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, Edmonton and St Mary’s College, Twickenham.

She was awarded her Doctorate in July 2010 entitled: “The promotion of optimal hydration in elite athletes and sportspeople” and presented an original communication at the British Nutrition Foundation Hydration and Health Conference (London 2010). Karen has been a tutor on postgraduate courses for Sports Dietitians since 1992 and is currently an Associate Tutor at Cardiff Metropolitan University and a Visiting Lecturer at Roehampton University. She has served on the committee of Sports Dietitians UK (SDUK) and is currently a board member and assessor for the UK Sport and Exercise Nutrition (SEN) register

Karen is a regular presenter at conferences including the Nutritionists in Industry Sports Nutrition Conference at Twickenham Rugby Stadium (March 2012), Primary Care 2013 (NEC Birmingham), Nutraformulate (March 2013), the IFST Spring Conference, Nutrition for Olympians at the Leatherhead Food Research Institute (April 2012),  and the Euroscicon Sports Science Summit (London 2015).

She has written articles in a number of sport and health related publications and contributed to the IOC Legacy document for the 2012 Olympic Games “A Guide to Nutrition and Hydration for Active Healthy Lifestyles” coordinated by Professor Ron Maughan and published by the European Hydration Institute.
